Greenwich Schools by Neighborhood: Which Public Elementary and Middle School Your Address Feeds, and What the Private Options Add

Quick answer

Greenwich assigns each student to one of 11 neighborhood elementary schools and one of 3 middle schools by street address. Every public high school student attends Greenwich High School.

The same road can feed different schools by house number, so check the exact address in the district’s School Finder before you make an offer.

How Greenwich assigns schools

Greenwich Public Schools runs fifteen schools: eleven neighborhood elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8) and one high school (9-12). The district educates 8,319 students, according to its October 1, 2025 enrollment report. Students are assigned to elementary and middle schools by residential attendance area, and the district’s School Finder lists the assignment for each street address.

Use it the way the district describes: enter the street name in the tool, in capital letters, with abbreviations such as ST, DR and BLVD and no periods. The district also publishes a master list of street addresses and their school assignments. Both are on the district’s website, and both are the authority. A neighborhood name, a ZIP code or a listing description is not.

The address decides, not the neighborhood name

Greenwich neighborhoods do not map neatly onto school boundaries. In the district’s street list, a single road can change schools partway along its length, and roads with the same name in different parts of town feed different schools. These are the patterns we found:

RoadWhat the district list shows
Cognewaugh RdNumbers 2 to 124 go to North Mianus School and Eastern Middle School. Numbers 125 and up go to North Street School and Central Middle School.
Clapboard Ridge RdNumbers 1 to 21 go to North Street School. Numbers 22 and up go to Parkway School. Both feed Central Middle School.
Chestnut StThree different streets share the name. The 06830 street goes to New Lebanon School (Western), the 06807 street to North Mianus School (Eastern) and the 06878 street to Riverside School (Eastern).
East Putnam AveSections of the road go to five different elementary schools: Julian Curtiss, North Street and Cos Cob (all Central), and Riverside and the International School at Dundee (both Eastern).
Forest Ave and Binney LnBoth are in ZIP 06870. Binney Ln goes to Old Greenwich School. Forest Ave goes to the International School at Dundee. Both feed Eastern Middle School.

Checked against the district’s published street list in October 2026. These examples show the pattern. They do not replace a School Finder lookup of the exact address.

The practical rule is simple. Do not assume which school a house feeds from the village it sits in. Run the address.

Which elementary school feeds which middle school

The street list also names the middle school for each address. In the streets we checked, the elementary-to-middle pattern is consistent, with one exception:

  • Eastern Middle School: Old Greenwich, Riverside, North Mianus and the International School at Dundee.
  • Central Middle School: Cos Cob, Julian Curtiss and North Street.
  • Western Middle School: Glenville, Hamilton Avenue and New Lebanon.
  • Parkway School splits. Some Parkway streets feed Central and others feed Western, so the middle school depends on the street.

Central Middle School lists 508 students and Western lists 565, including 61 magnet students, on their school websites. Western is the district’s one magnet middle school, an AVID Schoolwide program. Eastern’s page does not publish an enrollment figure.

The table lists each school, its grades and program, its middle school, sample streets confirmed in the district’s list, and its 2026-27 enrollment against planning capacity from the district’s March 2026 capacity study.

Streets were checked against the Greenwich Public Schools street list, which is alphabetical, so the samples are not exhaustive. Enrollment and planning capacity are from the district’s Elementary School Capacity & Utilization Study (March 2026). Hamilton Avenue’s planning capacity appears as 390 in most of the study and 411 in one slide; the table uses 390.

What this means for the neighborhoods we cover

  • Old Greenwich and Riverside feed Eastern Middle School. Both elementary buildings were at or just above planning capacity in 2026-27, and the district says construction projects are planned at each.
  • Cos Cob is split by address. Cos Cob Ave (ZIP 06807) feeds Cos Cob School and Central, while Chestnut St (also ZIP 06807) feeds North Mianus School and Eastern.
  • Downtown and the Field Point Road corridor feed Julian Curtiss School and Central in every Field Point Rd range we checked, along with Church St, Davis Ave and East Bruce Park Ave.
  • The northern and inland parts of town fan out across North Street, Parkway, North Mianus and Glenville schools, and the middle school can be Central, Eastern or Western. Check each address.

Our neighborhood pages cover Old Greenwich, Riverside, Cos Cob, Belle Haven, downtown, mid-country and the backcountry. Each lists school assignment as something to verify for the specific property, for the reason above.

Capacity: which elementary buildings are full

In March 2026 the district published a study of how enrollment matches classroom space at its eleven elementary schools. Across all eleven, 2026-27 enrollment is 4,047 against a planning capacity of 4,329, or 93%. The study projects utilization averaging 96% over the next five years and peaking at 98% in 2030-31, and it concludes that there does not appear to be sufficient capacity to consolidate schools. It projects Glenville, North Mianus, North Street, Old Greenwich and Riverside to exceed full planning capacity.

2026-27 elementary enrollment as a share of planning capacity

Dashed line marks 100% of planning capacity. Dark bars are above it. Source: Greenwich Public Schools, March 2026.

Hamilton Avenue, Parkway and Julian Curtiss have the most room. Parkway has the largest projected five-year growth in the study, at 20%, followed by Cos Cob at 16% and Riverside at 12%. The study is about space, not quality, and neither the study page nor the report mentions boundary changes. If you are buying near a school above 100%, ask the district whether any changes are planned for the address.

Magnet schools and the February 1 residency date

Greenwich has four magnet elementary schools and one magnet middle school: Hamilton Avenue, the International School at Dundee, Julian Curtiss, New Lebanon and Western Middle School. The district states that each magnet school is also a neighborhood school, and a limited number of seats go to students from outside the attendance area.

  • International School at Dundee (K-5): an International Baccalaureate program with Spanish instruction.
  • Julian Curtiss School (K-5): Spanish or French instruction, with students from nearly 60 countries.
  • New Lebanon School (K-5): an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme, with Spanish and a Farm to School program.
  • Hamilton Avenue School (preschool to grade 5): moving from a STEAM magnet to a program built on AVID and Suzuki music.
  • Western Middle School (6-8): an AVID Schoolwide program. For 2027-28 it will not accept new magnet students unless they have a sibling already attending, because of temporary capacity challenges.

When a magnet school has more applications than seats, the district runs a lottery. Each student submits one application listing up to three magnet preferences. For the 2027-28 school year, applications are due February 1, 2027, and you must be a Greenwich resident or a Town of Greenwich employee on that date to enter. Results are emailed by the end of February.

That date matters if you are relocating. A family that has not moved in by February 1 cannot enter the 2027-28 lottery. If a magnet program is a priority, build your closing date around it. Our NYC relocation guide and sale and purchase timing guide cover the sequence.

What the state data shows

The Connecticut State Department of Education publishes a Profile and Performance Report for every district through EdSight. Greenwich’s report for 2024-25, printed December 10, 2025, shows the following district-wide figures:

MeasureGreenwich School District
Enrollment, October 1, 2024 (PK-12)8,465
Four-year graduation rate, 2024 cohort (652 students)96.2%
Postsecondary entrance, Class of 202485.3% (state 67.0%)
Chronic absenteeism, 2024-259.9% (state 17.2%)
Accountability Index, 2024-251,250.3 of 1,450 (86.2%)
Per-pupil expenditure, 2023-24$27,791 (state $22,054)

Source: Connecticut State Department of Education, District Profile and Performance Report for School Year 2024-25, Greenwich School District. Chronic absenteeism means missing ten percent or more of enrolled days. Per-pupil expenditure is total expenditures divided by students enrolled. The state accountability system uses twelve indicators, and the report does not explain how index points are scored. These are district-wide figures, not school-by-school or neighborhood comparisons.

The district’s per-pupil spending of $27,791 compares with $22,054 statewide. The state notes that school spending can come from local taxes, state and federal grants, tuition and other sources. Our property tax guide explains how the Greenwich bill is calculated.

Greenwich High School

Greenwich High School, at 10 Hillside Road, is the district’s only public high school and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Its 2026 school profile lists about 2,600 students, a Class of 2026 of 643, 35 AP courses and more than 350 courses overall. In May 2026, 3,348 AP exams were administered to 1,042 students, and 63% of the Class of 2026 scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam during high school. For the Class of 2027, 550 students took the Connecticut School Day SAT, with mean scores of 580 in evidence-based reading and writing and 574 in math.

Registering your child after you buy

A new resident student must register with the district, online or in person at the assigned school. Registration calls for the child’s birth certificate, an immunization record and two forms of proof of residency. To enroll in kindergarten, a child must turn five on or before October 1 of the kindergarten year.

The district’s residency checklist for homeowners asks for a signed affidavit, proof of ownership (a property tax bill, mortgage statement or deed) and two current utility bills with the same name and address. Telephone bills do not count. Renters provide a signed lease or a landlord affidavit and the same two bills. Families that move within Greenwich during the school year must resubmit proof of residency.

The published checklist does not say how to register when you are under contract but have not closed. Call the school office, which handles registration questions, before you close so the paperwork is ready as soon as you do.

Private school options

Many Greenwich buyers weigh four independent schools alongside the public district. All four publish 2026-27 tuition on their websites, and each offers financial aid.

SchoolStudentsGradesPublished 2026-27 tuition range
Brunswick SchoolBoysPre-K to 12$52,000 to $61,400
Greenwich AcademyGirlsPre-K to 12$54,260 to $60,820
Greenwich Country Day SchoolCoedNursery to 12$48,635 to $63,600
Sacred Heart GreenwichGirls (coed early childhood)Early childhood to 12$41,800 to $59,900

Tuition ranges run from the lowest to the highest published full-day 2026-27 figure on each school’s website. Sacred Heart’s low figure is its Barat Center full-day early childhood program; its half-day option is $28,400 and is excluded. Brunswick’s page lists identical amounts under both 2025-26 and 2026-27 headings, so confirm with the school.

Brunswick School describes itself as an independent, college preparatory day school for boys. Greenwich Academy is a college-preparatory school for girls, founded in 1827. Greenwich Country Day School calls itself the only coed, independent Nursery to Grade 12 college preparatory day school in Greenwich. Sacred Heart Greenwich is an independent Catholic school for girls on a 110-acre campus, with a coed early childhood program. Admission is separate from the home purchase, so start the application process early and confirm deadlines with each school.

A checklist before you make an offer

  1. Run the exact address in the district’s School Finder and note the elementary and middle school.
  2. Check the assigned elementary school’s 2026-27 enrollment against its planning capacity.
  3. Ask the district whether any construction or boundary changes affect that address.
  4. If a magnet program matters, work out whether you will be a Greenwich resident by February 1.
  5. Gather proof of ownership and two utility bills for registration, and call the school office about timing.
  6. Confirm private school deadlines separately.

This guide does not rank schools or neighborhoods. Peter can walk you through the assignment for any address you are considering, so the school on the listing is the school you plan around.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find which public school a Greenwich CT address is zoned for?

Use the School Finder on the Greenwich Public Schools website. Enter the street name in capital letters, using abbreviations such as ST, DR and BLVD without periods. The district also publishes a master list of street addresses with their school assignments. Assignment follows the exact address, and some roads split by house number, so confirm the specific property rather than the neighborhood name. The district’s main office number is (203) 625-7400.

How many public schools are in Greenwich CT?

Fifteen: eleven neighborhood elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8: Central, Eastern and Western) and one high school, Greenwich High School (9-12). The district reports 8,319 students per its October 1, 2025 enrollment report. Students are assigned to elementary and middle schools by residential attendance area, and four elementary schools and one middle school also run as magnet schools with a lottery for seats outside their attendance areas.

Which middle school does each Greenwich CT elementary school feed?

In the district’s street list, Old Greenwich, Riverside, North Mianus and the International School at Dundee feed Eastern. Cos Cob, Julian Curtiss and North Street feed Central. Glenville, Hamilton Avenue and New Lebanon feed Western. Parkway feeds Central or Western depending on the street. Because assignment follows the address, check the exact property in the district’s School Finder.

How do Greenwich CT public schools perform on state measures?

In the Connecticut State Department of Education’s 2024-25 district report, Greenwich shows a 96.2% four-year graduation rate, 85.3% postsecondary entrance for the Class of 2024 against 67.0% statewide, and 9.9% chronic absenteeism against 17.2% statewide. The district’s Accountability Index is 1,250.3 of 1,450. These are district-wide figures, not school-by-school or neighborhood comparisons.

Can I enter a Greenwich CT magnet school lottery before I close on a home?

Not for the 2027-28 lottery unless you are already a resident. The district says you must be a Greenwich resident or a Town of Greenwich employee on February 1, 2027 to enter, and applications are due that day. Results are emailed by the end of February. Each magnet school is also a neighborhood school, so students who live inside its attendance area are assigned to it without the lottery.
